A Year in the Life of an Ottawa Logo and Brand Design Specialist

A number of compelling and intriguing projects arrived at Sumack Loft this past year.

Happy New Year! I know it’s only January 7th but so far so good!

As I did in 2017 and 2018, I took some time on New Year’s Day last week to look back over the wide variety of interesting graphic design jobs that came into my studio last year. I was lucky enough to work on some pretty wonderful branding projects, with elements in both the online and print realms. It was so hard to choose but please see below for three of my several favourites.

A local yoga studio, Rising Sun Yoga, was recently taken over by one of its teachers, who, upon reflection, decided that in order to really make the business her own, she needed to rebrand the studio with a new name and a comprehensive new visual identity. Thus, Surya Daya Yoga & Wellness was born.

Amber and I went through my usual process to establish a set of parameters for the new brand, and I was delighted to hear that she was quite set on having a ring of elephants for her new logo, surrounding a sun mandala. Here is the final logo ☺️

We produced several pieces of print collateral for Amber’s newly branded studio, along with an ad for the local arts and community newspaper, and of course Facebook page graphics and a beautiful new website. I hope you love Amber’s new identity as much as we do!

Little Mississippi Juice Company is a new business with a mission to supply fresh cold-pressed juice and related products to the community of Mississippi Mills.

Once again, I worked closely with entrepreneur Clare to ensure I understood precisely the message she wanted to convey with her new brand. Four concepts were presented, with a splash of juice being the one that won Clare’s heart! She was overjoyed with the final design 😀

Clare is one of those rare clients who is quite comfortable producing her own website so Sumack Loft was not brought in to help with that part of the project, however, I was delighted to be asked to design labels for her flagship juices, which you can see below (although naturally the actual juice colour varies from flavour to flavour!).

The Rideau Lakes Public Library was referred to us by one of our other Library clients (we’ve worked with several!), looking to refresh their out of date branding as well as upgrade their website to simplify and improve functionality and navigation.

I worked closely with the lead librarian to produce the spirited and animated logo seen here. The client requested imagery of a loon taking off, with the open wings recalling the pages of a book and its necklace mimicking a wifi symbol. Everyone is delighted with the new visual identity.

The new branding and website just launched a few days ago and we are all pleased as punch with the way things look. You can see the Facebook page graphics here, and the gorgeous and effective new website here!

Another enjoyable and challenging year for Sumack Loft!

I get a big kick out of the diverseness of clients with whom I am privileged to work and am once again looking forward very much to what this new year will bring!
