Brand Design

Do you need a “Dreamy” New Logo?

Designing groovy… it’s a thing.

I’ve been fortunate enough to be asked to design two different logos and two separate websites for the same client in just two years. A little unusual, right? So… Am I lucky or is my client just crazy?

Okay, they had a pretty good reason. They launched a new company called EkoBuilt Home Building Solutions two years ago focusing on more modern and state of the art house construction (you might remember my blog post about it), while keeping their old log home building company intact.

Once the dust had settled on the new company’s branding, website, and promotion, they realized they needed to up their game for the old company, Kealey & Tackaberry Log Homes. I’m going to bet you already know this, but that’s where I come in.

A company logo needs to communicate a simple, calculated, powerful message to existing and potential customers.

During the development process, I ask very targeted questions, the answers to which outline the strategic direction for creative development. It’s really not art so much as it is science. One of things I ask is that you describe to me exactly what kind of feeling you want your logo to convey. I might even ask you to describe your future logo as if it was a person — someone you know.

What adjectives should best describe your logo?

When my builder client provided the answers to that particular question for his log home building company, he said he wanted his logo to be dreamy. Sure, he gave me a few other words too, but that one stood out. It’s certainly the first time anyone has provided dreamy as a strategic word, lol.

A dream house lit up by a summer sky.

After a thorough development process, the logo we produced conveys the idea of a dream home with the log house set off by a gorgeous summer sky, a bird soaring above, a lone pine tree (from whence the house came?), and a river rolling past. The house itself is dropped out as negative space, representing its seamless integration into the environment, the sense of living lightly, with a small carbon footprint.
