Business cards tell people a lot more than you might guess about how much you care about your business.
You know the expression “clothes make the man”? Okay, well, it was written by Mark Twain sometime between 1835 and 1910. The rest of the quote goes “Naked people have little or no influence on society” (he said “naked”!). I know you see where I’m going with this. If you dress in a manner appropriate for business, you have way more clout with potential and existing customers than if you wear a raggedy old t-shirt and ripped blue jeans — unless you’re Steve Jobs or Oprah Winfrey, in which case you can wear whatever you want, but it takes a lot of hard work, good luck, and being in the right place at the right time to be in their shoes.
First impressions can be pretty crucial in the business world. A well-designed and good quality business card will leave a lasting impression in a person’s memory and will help your brand stand out from that of your competitors in a big way. A poor quality card can leave the impression that your business offers poor quality services and/or products, and that’s one thing you know you don’t want.
Business cards also contain a real potential to keep your audience engaged. When used properly, they act as a vehicle that will drive people to your website and your social media presence. They also serve to personalize your company and extend your brand’s footprint.

It always surprises me but I can’t even count the number of times that a client will come to me and be totally okay with spending a decent amount of their hard-earned cash to have me develop a really fantastic visual brand for their business, and then when the subject of business cards comes up, they say, no no, I’ll just get the printer to whip something off. Really?! Trust me, you don’t want to “save money” on your business cards. They may seem old-fashioned or unnecessary, but in truth they are often the first impression that people will have of your business, and as such they are still a very relevant marketing and advertising tool.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go get out of this raggedy old t-shirt and ripped blue jeans. I have a meeting!
Give me a call if you’d like to chat about how we can make your business cards scream “you need to do business with me“.
