Web Design Without the Headache: How We Make It Simple, Strategic & Stress-Free

You don’t need to speak tech or know exactly what you need—we’ll guide you through it.

If you’ve been putting off getting a website—because you’re not sure where to start, what it should cost, or how you’ll manage it afterward—you’re not alone. We’ve worked with lots of small business owners, nonprofits, and community organizations who felt the same way at first.

The good news? It doesn’t have to be overwhelming.

At Sumack Loft, we guide you through a web design process that’s practical, personal, and built to give you a site you can be proud of (and actually use). Whether you’re looking for a simple brochure site or something a bit more robust, our process is always grounded in clarity—and shaped around what you need most.

Step One: Listening Comes First

We begin with a short phone or video call to understand your goals and the role your website needs to play. Some clients want a content-rich site with flexible functionality. But many are simply looking for a clear, welcoming online presence—a place where people can learn who they are, what they do, and how to get in touch.

We call this a “brochure” website—a clean, informative site with space for photos, text, and your personality.

Step Two: A Detailed, Transparent Proposal

After that first conversation, we create a detailed, costed proposal that spells out everything you need to know. No jargon, no fine print—just a clear plan, with all the components broken down.

We’ll help you understand the difference between a basic site and something with more features, and we always include flexible options to help you stay within your budget.

Curious to see what this looks like? Here are two real-world examples:

🐞 Dalgity Therapy – a clean, calming brochure site for a counselling and psychotherapy practice, with branding and design that reflect the warmth and care at the heart of their work.

🪵 Flynn Log Homes – a bold, bilingual site with a strong visual identity. We created both the branding and the website, bringing their brand to life with a distinctive design and bilingual functionality that’s easy to navigate.

In both of these cases, the logo design process was personal. For Dalgity Therapy, the client asked for a hand holding a heart with a ladybug, drawing inspiration from the e.e. cummings poem “i carry your heart with me(i carry it in my heart)”. For Flynn Log Homes, they requested a bald eagle carrying a roof truss. It took some creative problem-solving to bring that idea to life, but the final mark hit the right balance—and went on to win a LogoLounge award in 2024.

Step Three: Custom Design on a Trusted Platform

We build the lion’s share of our websites on WordPress.com, which we recommend for its security, ease of use, and long-term stability—especially for smaller organizations. That said, we’re platform-flexible when needed. And because we also handle branding and logo design, many of our website projects start even earlier—with the visual identity itself. Once your site is live, you’ll be able to update it on your own without needing to touch a line of code.

We’ve designed and built—and in every case below, also branded—sites for:

  • 🎨 Crown & Pumpkin Studio Tour – a highly visual community event site with multiple artist pages
  • 🚲 Cycle MORE – a bold, modern site for a regional cycling initiative, with interactive maps and bright, energetic branding
  • 📚 Petawawa Public Library – a public library site with a strong focus on navigation and clarity for multiple user groups

Each one reflects a different personality—but they all started with a simple conversation.

Step Four: Training & Support

Our goal is to leave you with something that works beautifully—and that you actually feel good about using
